Found mainly in the eastern regions of China (approx 7 million acres). Also found in Japan but in much smaller quantities.

Available in two different hues: light natural or caramel.

MECHANICAL PROPERTIES

Can be used as timber if harvested after 7 years and is relatively strong and durable. Density averages 750 kg/m³.

Readily available as a fleeced backed jointed layon.

USE AS TIMBER CUTS FEATURES

Widely used as a building material for furniture, plywood manufacture and scaffolding. More recently introduced to the furniture and panel market as a veneer.

Each colour (light or caramel) is available with either narrow or wide strips featured.

PROPERTIES-MACHINING, FINISHING

Only readily available as a prepared and jointed fleeced veneer layon. Can be carefully fine sanded and polished in the same way as a conventional hardwood veneer.
